The Foundation is the sponsor and host
of numerous annual events.
The Gathering: is the best known of the Foundation sponsored events. This annual event is held the third weekend in August, at the "mecca" of Colliedom....Sunnybank, Wayne, New Jersey.......home of Albert Payson Terhune, famous dog writer and Collie breeder and owner. It was also the setting for most of his famous dog stories. Even though his home was demolished more than 30 years ago, parts of the property remain. Included are: a museum, trails, Champion rock (burial ground for Lad and many others), and a bronze memorial. No one goes away untouched by the magic of Sunnybank. This annual event began several years ago as a small get-together for Foundation business. It has now become a summer ritual. Events in past years have included several guest speakers, including Claire Leishman, the late Irving Litvag (author of Master of Sunnybank) and Bill Mastbrook & Dale Hooper, (longtime friends and confidantes of Anice Terhune). Saturday is filled with mini-seminars, educational offerings and tours. Sunday brings a series of puppy matches that includes the Virtual Reality match and the Lad Memorial Match. The weekend combines a wonderful mix of fun, education and fund-raising, with Collie people attending from all over the country. There is no better place in the world to hold a Collie get together, than the one-time home of the greatest Collie fan of all time! This year's Gathering dates are August 15 & 16, 2009.

Annual Silent Auctions: These are a series of auctions held every year
at the Collie Club of America National Specialty, that raise thousands
of dollars. It has turned into one of the Foundations greatest
money raising events!! In the past we have had 2 auctions per
day, for 4 days running. Recently in order to give people more
time at the National to enjoy other activities, we have cut back
to an auction only in the morning for the first 3 days. Plus,
we have one nighttime auction after the annual meeting. The auction
items include all sorts of Collie Collectibles and is funded almost
entirely with donated items. Items. include collie figurines,
books (including Albert Payson Terhune), artwork, jewelry, photos,
magazines, "Lassie" items - you name it!
Annual Dinner, Meeting
& Live Auction: This is considered
one of the high-lights of the National Specialty week. Usually
Thursday evening is reserved as "Foundation Night".
Not only is a dinner served, but we have a short annual meeting,
when Grant Awards are announced and various Presidential awards
are presented, including the coveted President's Trophy. If an
election year, it also provides an opportunity to meet the new
Officers, Corporators and Board members. For the last few years,
the dinner has been a casual affair, held at ringside. When the
meeting is over, the event that most people come for begins.....
The "Live Auction"! This nighttime event is reserved
for the REALLY nice Collie Collectibles. These include many scarce
and desirable items, such as Royal Doultons, Hutschenreuthers,
Beswicks, and Mortens; collector's plates, rare and out-of-print
collie books, old letters and pedigrees from famous collie kennels
of the past, artwork and fine jewelry. The list goes on and on!
Both the Live and Silent Auctions are valuable fund raisers for
the Foundation. Auction items are mostly donated by Foundation
members and Collie Club of America members, from their own personal
collections. Sometimes items have been willed to the Foundation
from the estates of deceased members. Thousands of research dollars
are raised each year from the series of National auctions!
