While Collies are considered a robust and healthy breed, they can be predisposed to a few inherited health conditions. These include Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), a congenital eye disorder; MDR1 gene mutation, which affects sensitivity to certain medications; and dermatomyositis (DMS), an autoimmune skin and muscle disorder. Thankfully, responsible breeders routinely screen for these conditions, and genetic testing has made early detection and prevention more accessible than ever.
